Mechanism of CellEffic BM
Principle of the filtration: Bone marrow (BM) flows by gravity over the filter, red blood cells (RBCs) can pass through the filter and are collected in the waste bag while preferentially mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) and some other cells are entrapped in the filter. Finally, the MSCs – among other cells –are reversely washed out of the filter into the cell harvest bag, allowing to collect a cell product which contains more MSCs than in commonly used Ficoll isolation procedures based on colony-forming unit-fibroblast (CFU-F) assay (see Performance by CellEffic BM).
Advantages of a manual system for separation and harvesting of MSC from BM - CellEffic BM:
- Low capital equipment: neither machine or centrifuge nor maintenance and software
- Excluding downtime of machine or centrifuge
- Reduction of chemicals: only 0.9 % NaCl solution (optional cell culture medium with serum) needs to be added
